What
does it mean to be a member of the VRGT?
You are someone who is living a
plant-based lifestyle, transitioning to such a lifestyle, or sincerely
wants to learn more about such a lifestyle.
You realize that the group is composed
of many different types of people who are in various stages of living
and understanding a plant-based lifestyle, and that we can learn from
each other.
You may not agree completely with
another member's views or perspectives on a particular
vegetarian-related issue (for example, some members are vegans, some
are lacto-ovo vegetarians, some are still omnivores making the
transition; some have chosen this lifestyle for ethical reasons,
others for health or environmental reasons), but you recognize that
life is about diversity, that the VRGT embraces diversity, and that we
can respect and learn from each other if we are willing to listen with
an open heart and mind.
The following are opportunities, not "requirements" for
membership:
You have an opportunity to get together
with other like-minded people to share food and ideas at group
restaurant nights out and potlucks.
You have an opportunity to participate
in helping educate people about the many facets of a plant-based
lifestyle, including nutrition/health, environmental impact, and
animal/ethical issues, by tabling at events, showing videos, and other
projects.
You have a venue (our newsletter, Cornucopia,
sent to members via e-mail) through which you can share ideas, ask
questions, and place classified ads.
You have an opportunity to support the
group financially through donations. Remember: we are a grass roots,
all-volunteer nonprofit group that receives no government funding.
You have an opportunity to help further
the purpose of VRGT by attending meetings and helping plan events and
projects, such as the Great American Meatout, serving vegetarian food
to community groups, working on our restaurant guide, and planning
educational programs.
Members of VRGT will occasionally
receive information about events or special offers (related to the
group) not available on the website.
